STUDENT LIFE
Transcript

We believe in empowering our students to be educated leaders. Offering summer internships, project-based clubs, and allowing them to facilitate their own ventures helps them build an academic résumé and gain real-life experience.

In addition to leadership, student wellness is an essential part of their success. It begins with the Character Counts and Responsive Classroom Programs in Lower School and continues through advisory and college counseling until each student graduates. Supporting each student in his/her individual needs, we strive to foster capable, ethical, and articulate citizens.

[MUSIC PLAYING] Student life at Wakefield School is all about student ownership. While faculty offer certain clubs and ideas and things like that, it really is up to the students to take that on and make it their own.

So for example, in our Wakefield Philosophical Society, which is our Ethics Bowl team, and that is, while sponsored by faculty, the real heart of it comes from the students. The same thing is true with our Model UN, our service club, our Green Initiative.

And then that goes back to event planning, the various fun events that we do every year, movie nights, dances, are all spearheaded by student involvement. So that's really at the core of what we do for student life here.

I think clubs are really important part of student life, just because you can cater it so much what you want to do. You have opportunities to get some career experience, like investment club. Or just hang out with your friends and teachers doing rumba aerobics. It's a great way to end the day.

So part of Wakefield wellness is meditation. And meditation is a wonderful tool for us because not only does it promote positive outlook, reduces stress, helps with test-taking, helps with concentration and focus, it's also something that's good for our immune system.

So it's a really key part of keeping the students well. Dogs are another fun thing about Wakefield and part of Wakefield wellness, we have a number of dogs on campus.

And we know that having the dogs around helps kids focus, helps them take tests. And just helps keep a positive atmosphere at the school. So we're really pleased with these two components of our school.
